A celebration of the Natural History Museum's living collection'
Be it handlebar or mutton-chop, goatee or even Santa Claus, facial hair makes a visual statement about the personality of
the wearer.
When HRH Prince Philip said, 'What a fine collection of beards you have here', at the opening of the Darwin Centre in October 2001, he acknowledged what many people at the Museum have known for years, that there exists another unique collection behind the scenes, an altogether more hairy collection.
August - November 2004.
The Natural History Museum, London.
Joint exhibition with Paul Ruddock.
Triple Vision, 23rd May - 1st July 1988
The Ilford Gallery, Tottenham Street, London W1 .
joint exhibition with John Downs & Gary Summons
The exhibition, with its central theme of landscapes, shows three separate visions of our surroundings.
The brooding romantic sky and seascapes of Derek Adams contrast with the formal view of Gary Summons, who studies the gothic structures of man and nature. John Downs photographs the details and features of the landscape with a more abstract eye.
Essex based photographer Derek Adams took his first photographs with an old Kodak Box Brownie at the age of 7. For his 13th Birthday he got a 35mm rangefinder camera, and was hooked.
In 1974 he left school to follow his passion, becoming a full time photographer with Photocall Features, within a couple of months had his first photos published in a newspaper.
Meanwhile he studied photography part time at Paddington College .
Over 35 years experience as a professional photographer working for a variety of different clients from Top Shop to B.T. and employers including The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, and The Natural History Museum, London.
